Overview
The pass between Brig and Domodossola, where Napoleon ordered a military road built from 1801 to 1805 to move artillery into Italy. It was one of the first great engineered alpine roads. The Simplon Hospice and an eagle monument mark the summit, and the road is kept open all year.
