Overview
One of the oldest and longest major roads in Asia, running from Bengal across the Indo-Gangetic plain to Lahore, Peshawar and Kabul. Ancient in origin, it was rebuilt by Sher Shah Suri in the 16th century with caravanserais and milestones, extended by the Mughals and metalled by the British.
