Overview
Ceausescu ordered this military road over the Fagaras mountains after the 1968 Prague invasion, built largely by soldiers at cost of lives. It climbs to Balea Lac at 2,042 m with a long spike of switchbacks visible from space. Top Gear crowned it the best driving road.
