Overview
The paved road completed in 2011 linking the Brazilian state of Acre with Pacific ports in southern Peru. It crosses the Amazon lowlands and climbs over the Andes. The project opened a new trade route for Brazil but drew concern over deforestation and illegal gold mining along its path.
